AMI City Pier Grill

AMI City Pier Grill

The AMI City Pier has been a fixture of Anna Maria Island since the early 1900's but was recently rebuilt due to the extensive damage from Hurricane Irma in 2017. Local businessmen Brian Seymour, Victor Mattay and Nicholas Graham came out on top of the bidding process and opened The City Grill and Bait Shop in 2020.

"We have focused on quality food at family friendly prices where 95% of our menu items are made fresh in house by our father/son manager Chris Powers and chef Jacob Powers. Weather permitting we have local entertainment each afternoon / early evening on the pier just in front of the Grill. In addition to great food we offer beer, wine, seltzers and more from our grill as well as the best soft serve ice cream, gelattos, snow cones and more."

We stopped by on the way home from a beautiful day at Passage Key as radar showed decent thunderstorm had popped up along our route on the Manatee River. Traveling back along the east side of the island you can't miss it right after the Rod & Reel Pier. Docking is very limited, just enough space for two boats, and located on the south side of the pier closest to the pier house.

We found the service to be fast and friendly and took the time to enjoy a couple of cold beers before ordering. We went with the fried shrimp and fish tacos. The food came out surprisingly quickly and exactly as expected! When you go be sure to hang on to your receipt as it's the only way the kitchen staff can verify your order.

As you can see the views are nothing short of spectacular and I imagine it would even be better for breakfast or near sunset. Other than the limited docking the only other issue for some would be the lack of shade. There are only a couple of tables out of the direct sunlight and folks seemed to be jockeying for a spot at one of those while we were enjoying our food at one.

Mote Marine Laboratory will be coming to the pier by March 1, 2023! The Marine Education Outreach Center is expected to include live marine exhibits, including an invertebrate touch tank, interactive educational exhibits, real-time sights and sounds of the aquatic environment and other information related to our beautiful and fragile marine ecosystem.
